Pool Types

Types of Swimming Pools:

People have been enjoying the recreation of swimming in a pool of water for thousands of years.  In recent years, though, many of the riverbank swimming holes are too polluted for use.  Of course, the beach is still a popular spot for water recreation, but for most people, a swimming pool is the favorite choice.  Most pools are lined with blue, which sparkles beneath the clear water, adding a clean freshness to the fun of swimming.  Here are a few of the different types of pools a person can choose.

The least expensive swimming pools are small above ground pools that can be purchased in discount stores.  To actually be able to swim in them, they need to be at least 12 to 16 feet in diameter.  Popular depths for the smaller pools are three or four feet.  Shallower pools may be safer for the younger children, but any pool requires that an adult be present to supervise the little ones while they play.
Small, above ground pools usually come with a pump and cartridge filter assembly, along with a skimmer basket.  They are kept sparkling clear by the use of the same pool chemicals used in larger pools, but in smaller quantities.  It is important to know the volume of your pool when adding chemicals.  Always learn how to properly test the water and also follow all directions on the containers for safey.

Larger aboveground pools are popular with many families.  Some of these have a deck attached, which makes swimming just that much more fun.  Pools are difficult to move, so many people consider a high-quality aboveground pool as an investment in their property and leave it behind as a selling point if they have to relocate.  Some people use sand or diatomaceous earth filters with their large aboveground pools.

Inground pools are a standard in luxury.  The types available range from the least expensive vinyl liner style to elaborate concrete pools, often called gunite pools.  Vinyl liners have to be replaced periodically so if choosing a vinyl liner inground pool, it is sensible to get the best quality you can afford for the longest use.  A step up from the vinyl liner pools are the fiberglass molded pools.  These require a truck and crane for installation, but the fiberglass is very durable.  Gunite pools require professional installation, but are a wonderful investment in the value of your property as well as in the recreation of your family.

Spas or hot tubs are another type of pool, although they are for soaking and relaxing rather than for swimming.  A recent type of pool is sometimes called the spa-pool or endless pool.  This is a smallish pool that is equipped to keep the water in constant motion so that a person can swim for exercise in a small space.  Another newcomer in the pool choices available is called an infinity pool.  This is a luxury type inground pool often used where there is a view of a lake or the ocean.  The pool is situated so that the water runs over the edge on the side facing the view so that it gives the illusion of all being one body of water.
